What is barre?

STRENGTH
TRAINING
with a difference

Barre is a full-body workout that blends ballet-inspired movements with pilates and functional exercises. Don't let the name fool you. This is not a dance class, and you don't need any dance experience whatsoever.

Small, precise movements combined with high repetitions and light weights will build full body strength, increase your mobility and improve your balance. Low impact means it is kind on your joints, but your muscles will absolutely know they have worked. Will you say yes to the barre burn?

About me

I'm not a dancer. I'm not particularly flexible. When I first tried barre, I had no idea what I was doing and felt like a bit of a wally during the class. But I had SUCH a good workout, I booked myself straight back in again! Barre became the 50 minute slice of space and mindful movement that kept me sane, during my intense London days!

For nine years I have made barre part of my weekly movement routine and I can't live without it. It helps calm my mind, energise my body and refresh my nervous system. I love it and I hope you do too.

Since moving to Norfolk in 2020 I've practised online and regularly go down to London to visit my favourite studios, because nothing local existed. That felt like a gap worth filling.

Now qualified as a 100-hour Barre Instructor through Barre Series, I'm bringing the classes I love to Holt. If you're curious, excited to try something different, or looking to get back into barre, you are so welcome!

THE ONES
everyone asks

A warm welcome and a genuinely good workout. Both classes follow the same clear structure: warm up, arms, thighs and seat, core, stretch. You will always know what is coming. This is a good place to start if you are unsure. I can welcome brand new barre students in either class! You will leave feeling worked and uplifted.
Yes, genuinely. Barre is low impact and highly adaptable. There is no competition and no judgement. Everyone works at their own level through the same class.
Comfortable gym clothes and grip socks. Bare feet on the mat work well too. No special kit required. Please bring a mat, a water bottle and yourself!
Classes are held at Holt Community Centre, Kerridge Way, Holt, NR25 6DN, in the Gallery space at the back of the building. Classes run every Tuesday at 08:45 and 17:30.
